SpelHouse VC Mixer 2024: Connecting, Collaborating, and Cultivating Opportunity in Atlanta

On October 24th, just in time to kick off SpelHouse Homecoming weekend, Atlanta was abuzz with energy as HBCUvc, in collaboration with Silicon Valley Bank, BLCK VC, Opportunity Hub, and Sway Capital, hosted the highly anticipated SpelHouse VC Mixer. This annual event, now in its third year, drew over 100 attendees, including HBCUvc founders, venture capital partners, and former fellows, all gathered to connect, collaborate, and celebrate the growth of Black-led innovation in venture capital.

Kirby Harris, a Morehouse alum and managing partner at Base Ventures, led the night as both host and keynote speaker. His journey and insights into the VC landscape as a Black leader were a powerful reminder of the importance of community support and the impact we can make together. He emphasized that as the number of Black VCs continues to grow, so do the opportunities to uplift, invest in, and create wealth within Black communities.

The SpelHouse VC Mixer serves as a vital bridge, bringing together alumni and allies across the ecosystem to foster collaboration and build connections that transcend individual campuses or firms. Over the past three years, the Mixer has become a cornerstone event, fostering meaningful relationships and empowering rising leaders in venture capital.

As we look to the future, events like the SpelHouse VC Mixer are a testament to the shared vision of building sustainable, generative wealth in Black communities through entrepreneurship and investment. Thank you to our partners and all who joined us to make this event a continued success. We can’t wait to see the new ventures and partnerships that emerge from this powerful gathering. Here’s to more growth, impact, and legacy-building in the years to come.
