Announcing the 2024 HBCUvc Fellowship Impact Report

We are excited to announce the release of our 2024 HBCUvc Fellowship Impact Report, which highlights the transformative journey of 28 Black and historically excluded rising professionals who participated in our paid VC summer associate program. This year’s cohort, made up of MBA students and early-career professionals, collaborated with 25 leading venture capital firms and gained invaluable exposure to the venture capital ecosystem through hands-on experience, mentorship, and professional development.

Key Highlights from the Report:

  • Cohort Demographics: 57% of fellows identified as women, a significant contrast to the 15% representation of women in the venture capital industry. Additionally, 60% of the cohort are either HBCU alumni or currently enrolled in HBCU graduate programs.

  • Impact on Careers: 60% of fellows reported that the fellowship directly influenced their career trajectory, with 25% now pursuing full-time roles in venture capital and 50% planning to return to graduate school.

  • Professional Growth: Fellows not only gained technical skills but also developed a stronger sense of belonging and confidence in navigating the VC ecosystem. Before the fellowship, only 20% felt confident in the space, but post-fellowship, that number jumped to 80%.

  • Equity in Venture Capital: 80% of fellows noted that the program increased their awareness of Black and Brown expertise within the industry, reinforcing the importance of diversity and inclusion in venture capital.

We are proud of our fellows’ achievements and are grateful for the partners and supporters who have made this journey possible. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to mobilize a future generation of leaders in venture capital!
