$10 Million and Counting: HBCUvc Alumni Are Investing in the Future
Venture capital is about more than just money—it’s about access, relationships, and power. Today, we’re proud to release our 2024 Annual Impact Report, highlighting the collective action and growing influence of our alumni. In 2024 alone, HBCUvc Alumni Fellows directed over $10 million into Black-founded startups and organizations, reinforcing our community’s ability to drive economic transformation. Even more remarkable, nearly 50% of our alumni reported investing in a Black-founded company—a significant milestone in our mission to increase access to capital.
These results emerge against the backdrop of an increasingly challenging political and economic landscape. According to Crunchbase, funding to Black-founded startups plummeted to just 0.4% of all venture capital dollars in 2024. In the face of these stark statistics, our report underscores the power of collective action—demonstrating that when we invest in each other, we create real and lasting change.
This report is built on insights from our 2024 Annual Professional Survey, completed by 110 HBCUvc alumni. It also explores the impact of our 2024 nonprofit programming, highlighting key outcomes that contribute to strengthening Black entrepreneurship and investment in venture capital.
